History
Polar Automotive was first established in 1980 as J&B Motor Spares. As an official Thule Partner, we have been trusted by thousands of customers - whether fitting roof bars, snow chains, cycle carriers or tow bars – safety always comes first. Our tow bar fitters are NTTA (National Towing and Trailer Association) qualified to the highest level 3 and are knowledgeable and friendly.
We stock a range of tow bar mounted cycle carriers and accessories along with roof bars, boxes, snow chains and a wide range of vehicle touring accessories – a selection of which can be viewed on our websites at www.snowchains.com and www.kenttowbars.co.uk.
Milestones:
1980 - Opened first branch of J&B motor spares in London Road Southborough.
1985 - Opened second branch of J&B Motors Spares in Quarry Hill, Tonbridge.
1996 – Polar Automotive was launched specialising in vehicle Snow chains and operated from the Quarry Hill address.
2001 – J&B Motor spares closed. Polar Automotive moved to Bayhall Road, Tunbridge Wells.
Polar became an official Thule Partner, adding roof bars, roof boxes and cycle carriers to its range along with other vehicle leisure products.
2011 – Following expansion Polar Automotive moved to Unit 8 Sanderson Way Tonbridge where it added tow bar fitting to its range of services. With continued growth it became the largest distributor of snow chains to retail clients and wholesale outlets in the UK, including The AA and RAC.
2014 – Polar Automotive win the prestigious Thule Partner of the year, beating 125 other national distributors.
2018 – Further expansion led to a move to larger premises at our current location, Unit 18 Sanderson Way. This enabled us to bring all of our storage and distribution under one roof and also double our tow bar fitting capacity in our brand new purpose built fitting bays.
Our values
Most of our customers have either bought from us before, or have been recommended to see us by a friend, neighbour or acquaintance.
We only fit at our location in Tonbridge, Kent. Largely because our workshop is well lit and well equipped. We think this helps to enable our fitters to consistently deliver a high standard of workmanship.
That’s why our work is warrantied for 5 years* and we honour it.
*Detachable Necks of all brands come with only a 2 year warranty (due to moving parts in the mechanism).
